Interview with a Yogi!

Meet Lisa!
Lisa teaches flow and fusion classes here at True Self Yoga, you’ll find her instructing your favorite classes or practicing alongside of you!

Q: What was your first experience with yoga?
A: It would have been around 1998, I was in college. The gym I went to started offering Yoga classes. I was quickly hooked, as it not only helped me unwind from the stress of nursing school, but for the first time taught me breath and body awareness!
Q: What’s your favorite style of yoga?
A: I love Ashtanga and then any kind of flow, really. I love the fluidity of a flow and how Ashtanga brings me to my edge.
Q: Tell us what’s playing on your Spotify/Pandora right now!
A: Murder Mysteries or I enjoy shuffling through my ‘Playlist’ that I’ve been adding to for the last 5+ years, the most recent song is Peaceful Easy Feeling by The Eagles.
Q: If you were a t-shirt slogan, what would you say?
A: “Be Magnanimous, eh!”
Q: What’s your favorite posture and why?
A: Eka Pada Rajakapotanasana (Pigeon). I love a good hip opener, but Pigeon is like child’s pose in a sense for me, I melt into the mat and return to my breath and my mind quiets in this pose. It feels like home.
Q: How do you practice yoga off the mat?
A: Ohhh, this is what I am always striving for and also the place I teach from-the subtle practice of Yoga …how to bring Yoga off the mat. For me it is about grounding down, coming back to my breath, and finding my focus before I respond- it helps prevent me from reacting…however this is a work in progress, as most things are.
